Klavierstück. Allegro Molto in e minor
Fanny Hensel wrote this solo piano piece in 1844 during a productive creative period between two long compositional droughts in 1842 and 1845.
The work is an expansive treatment of the song-without-words style favored by Fanny and her brother Felix Mendelssohn. But the wide-ranging and unconventional sequence of key changes and intense chromatic coloring of this composition highlight the differing stylistic signatures between the siblings’ mature piano works.
