Klavierbuch in e minor
Fanny Hensel wrote this 6-movement solo piano suite in 1827.
In 1827-1828, while Felix was beginning work on his revival of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, Fanny experienced a Neobaroque compositional phase. The most substantial piece of this period was this Klavierbuch, a six-movement keyboard suite in e minor (a seventh movement was left uncompleted). In this work she employs a variety of quintessentially Baroque compositional techniques, demonstrating proficiency in a style of counterpoint that is starkly different from her lyrical romantic pieces.
I. Praeludio
II. Fuga
III. Allegro di molto
IV. Largo
V. Praeludio
VI. Toccata
