Klavierstück in A-flat Major
This is one of Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel’s earliest piano pieces, written in 1821. This piece was composed to honor a guest to the Mendelssohn house, the artist Karl Begas who painted Felix’s portrait in 1821. Fanny composed this piece on the notes B-flat, E, G, and A-flat (in German B, E, G, and As), in the same way her favorite composer J.S. Bach sometimes “signed” his work with the notes B-flat, A, C, and B-natural (B, A, C, H).
